For many years DC power systems were designed and built from individual components to meet a specific requirement. But over the past thirty years in the interests of efficiency the manufacturers have moved to prepackaged solutions. The problem is, do we really know if that package will meet the requirement. This two day course will go back to basics and take the students though the power system configurations that are typical to the industries in which they are used. Then the process of determining what information will be required to specify the requirement will be covered. Once that is understood the students will be given a workbook and a specification that they will use to select the components for their DC power system as the class progresses. The classes will cover the characteristics of all individual components that can be used to build a DC power system and how to select and size them for the student’s specific application. The course will end with a review of the student’s individual projects.
